“An alternative to booting cars could be coming to Wisconsin.
Currently, in Milwaukee, your car can’t be immobilized with a boot, but lawmakers are looking for new ways to crack down on repeat parking violators.
A bill that passed the Assembly and Senate could mean that new technology may be on the way to fight chronic parking violations where you live.
Senator Robert Cowles of Green Bay says a simple fix in Wisconsin law can mean a big change in how cities fight repeat parking violations.
The device uses commercial grade suction cups to stick onto the windshield of a car. To get it off, a person can call the municipality, get a code, enter it, take it off, and then return it later.”

Using boots to immobilize cars has been a tactic employed by parking authorities for years. Now, this new technique, should yield similar results but be a lot more cost-effective for the city. While some cities do offer self-releasing boots, it’s not commonplace. This windshield blocker, dubbed the barnacle, would allow violators to call the authorities and pay any outstanding fines to receive a code which would disable the device. At that point, the driver simply needs to drop off the device at their convenience.
