“The left rear wheel and tire came off a pickup truck on state Route 78 in San Marcos, smashing into an Escondido police cruiser and another vehicle Saturday. The accident happened about noon near Twin Oaks Valley Road.
It’s unknown what caused the wheel to come off the westbound Chevy 2500 truck, which was driven by a 40-year-old woman from Vista, the California Highway Patrol said.
The wheel went across the median and smashed the windshield and roof of the eastbound 2015 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor. The off-duty officer suffered minor injuries, according to the CHP.”

Talk about a string of bad luck. Having a wheel come off while driving on the highway is bad enough. However, when it smashes into a police vehicle? One has to wonder what else could possibly go wrong. It’s difficult to speculate as to why the wheel came off as several lug nuts are present to keep that from happening. Perhaps someone forgot to tighten them which would be extremely negligent.
