Every so often readers of the Providence Journal ask The Car Doctor questions pertaining to their vehicles. One such question was asked regarding DIY windshield repair kits:

Q: What do you think about DIY windshield chip repair kits? I have a small chip in the windshield on my car and I want to sell it, but don’t want to buy a windshield.

A: I have had mixed results with these kits. Once I used one and it worked perfectly. The second time, when the resin dried, it cracked the windshield. I now leave windshield chips to glass professionals. Check with your insurance company; some provide free chip repair.”
