If you’re traveling on a road treated with salt, sand, and rocks the best thing to do is keep plenty of distance. If possible allow for several car-lengths between you and the vehicle ahead. This should reduce the chance of rocks flung from tires hitting your windshield. If you do get a rock chip in your windshield be sure to have it fixed as soon as possible.
