Study shows drivers with ADAS may be more ‘disengaged’
“Drivers with experience using advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, were nearly twice as likely to engage in distracted driving while using the systems compared to when they were driving without the systems, according to new research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
“This new research suggests that as drivers gain more experience using ADAS technology, they could develop complacency while behind the wheel,” said Dr. David Yang, executive director of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. “Overreliance on these systems can put drivers and others in dangerous conditions during critical moments.””

ADAS was designed as a failsafe to ensure that drivers are alerted to potential hazards on the road. However, it shouldn’t be relied upon as a replacement for awareness. All too often, as is the case with other technologies, we become comfortable and accustomed to the convenience that such devices offer. Hopefully, this study will serve as a reminder that the best defense against an accident is staying engaged while driving.
If your vehicle is equipped with ADAS but you need to replace the windshield, chances are that system needs to be recalibrated. At Advantage Auto Glass we offer ADAS recalibration in addition to our auto glass services. Contact us at 612-343-8984 for more information on this service.
