Are heated ice scrapers an effective method for clearing your windshield?
“A lot of people are waking up in the DC area with ice on their windshield after snowfall in some areas. But a heated ice scraper promises to melt ice off of your windshield instantly.
Heated ice scrapers on the market costs between $4-$40. The device works by plugging it into an outlet, letting it heat up and you take the scraper and remove ice from your windshield.
John Townsend from AAA shared his method of removing ice from your windshield with 7 On Your Side. Townsend uses a solution that’s one part rubbing alcohol and two parts water. He pours the solution into a spray bottle and applies it to the windshield.”

According to the field test done by the reporter, apparently they aren’t. Instead, it’s recommended that a solution of 1 part rubbing alcohol and 2 parts water is used to clear ice quickly. What you never want to do is pour hot water on your windshield to melt the ice away. That could seriously compromise the integrity of your windshield resulting in cracking.
