“A rock flew from the back of a pickup and smashed through the windshield of another vehicle along Interstate 75 in Collier County, striking a passenger Tuesday, state police said.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers were seeking the driver of the pickup, who didn’t stop. The passenger suffered minor injuries.
The pickup was traveling south in the right lane of I-75 at mile marker 111, near the Immokalee Road exit, about 11:20 a.m., FHP reported in a new release. The Jeep was traveling behind in the center lane when the rock became dislodged from the pickup truck bed, striking the Jeep’s front windshield before penetrating it.”

The rock, measuring some 7 inches long, ended up injuring a passenger when it smashed through the windshield. Typically, when one describes rock chip damage it’s because a small rock was flung from the tire of the offending vehicle. That’s at least more forgivable and understanding since it has more to do with bad luck than negligence. In this case, the pickup truck driver, displayed extreme negligence by not removing the hazard before driving.
